Is your roof repair covered by insurance? There are many reasons why you might be wondering if so.
Seeing strange colors on your ceilings? Are you seeing bubbling in your ceiling? These are both signs of water damage. Water damage can cause serious problems in your home. Sometimes it can take some time before you realize that there is a problem. It's usually too late to fix the problem quickly and cheaply once you realize it.
So where is the water damage? Most often, water damage to your home comes from a damaged roof. If left unattended, even a minor amount of damage could cause serious water problems inside your home.
It is best to get your roof repair covered by insurance as soon as possible to prevent further damage. How do you find out if your insurance covers your repair? Although many insurance companies will cover repairs due to uncontrollable circumstances there are exceptions.
What if roof repair is not covered?
You will often see the word "peril", which refers to roof leaks and other roof repairs, in your insurance policy. A peril is simply a situation in which your home has been damaged by weather-related events. It could be anything from a hailstorm, a fire, or a snow. Your insurance company pay for the canopy if it is damaged by a covered risk.
Loss of shingles is one of the most common problems people have with their roofs. A storm can cause minor damage to some shingles. Your policy would cover all damage caused by the storm.
Some exceptions to this rule exist. Natural wear and tear can cause damage that is not caused by an accident. As roofs age, the materials deteriorate and they will develop leaks. Many insurance companies don't cover this type of repair.
However, these are repairs that your insurance company may deny. Insurance companies often distinguish between damage that is caused by an accident and damage that is caused by negligence. There is a good chance your claim will be denied if your roof has been damaged by negligence. This also applies to damage caused by pests, birds, and wet rot.
Reading through your policy is the best way to determine if it's best if you can have your roof repair covered by insurance. Certain homeowners' insurance policies exclude roof leaks from their policy. If you have a policy for older homes or high-risk properties, this may be possible. Because your home is more susceptible to roof leaks, your insurance company may refuse to cover them.

To ensure your claims are handled properly, you should take as many photos as possible of the damage.
